What roof problems are most common in Huntsville?
Tree and weather damage dominate: fallen limbs, debris-clogged valleys, hail bruising and leaks where flashing has aged. Huntsville’s wooded setting next to the Sam Houston National Forest means heavy canopy over many roofs, and the city averages around 51 inches of rain a year.
Wet leaves and needles trap moisture against shingles, valleys overflow and water finds seams. A homeowner often notices a ceiling stain days after a storm and assumes the damage is new. Often the cause has been building for months. We trace it from the attic out.
Which repairs do we perform on Huntsville roofs?
We perform these repairs, and we tell you when a fix will not hold:
- Replacing damaged or missing shingles
- Rebuilding flashing at chimneys, walls and valleys
- Patching punctures from limbs and debris
- Replacing deteriorated vent boots
- Repairing localized decking
Our general roof repairs page explains the approach. Storm-scale events are handled under storm damage repair.
How do I handle hail or hurricane damage?
Photograph from the ground, stay off the roof and call. Huntsville has had golf-ball-size hail with a tornado-warned outbreak on February 11, 2024, and Hurricane Beryl on July 8, 2024 brought flooding, wind and downed trees severe enough for a city disaster declaration.
We inspect, photograph and document damage you can share with your insurance company, then repair what we find. We also do not offer to take on any part of what you owe.
What do I do when a tree limb hits the roof?
Treat a punctured roof as urgent because open decking lets rain in quickly. Keep everyone out of the affected room, and photograph the damage from a safe spot. Call us so we can assess the opening and recommend the repair.
After the immediate problem is dealt with, think about the tree. A limb that struck once will likely strike again, and overhanging branches rub shingles raw over time. Trimming back from the roof is cheap protection.
Can you repair roofs on rentals, older homes and businesses?
Yes, all three, with different considerations. Rental owners near the university often want a clearly documented fix. Tell us about access when you call. Older homes, including those around the historic core, may need a gentler approach and, if designated, review by Huntsville’s Historic Preservation Commission at (936) 291-5400.
Business owners with flat or low-slope roofs can read about commercial roofing. We make no claim about having worked on any particular institution or building in the city.
Is a permit needed for a repair in Huntsville?
Confirm with the city. Huntsville’s permit pages say permits apply to altering or repairing a structure but do not name roofing specifically. Call Development Services at (936) 294-5717 or write to permits@huntsvilletx.gov with the scope. Small repairs and full replacements may be treated differently, so ask about yours.
When should I repair and when should I replace?
Repair when the damage is isolated and the rest of the roof is sound; replace when problems keep appearing or the material is brittle. Our Huntsville roof replacement page describes the larger project. Failing gutters often travel with a tired roof, so ask about gutter replacement at the same visit. When a bigger job is the right call, financing is available through Enhancify, a third-party lender.

Look for dented vents, bruised shingles and granules in gutters, but damage is often invisible from the ground. We inspect, photograph and document it so you can share it with your insurance company.
A limb punctured my roof. Is that urgent?
Yes. Open decking lets rain in quickly. Call us and keep clear of the damaged area.
Can you repair roofs on rental homes?
Yes. Tell us about access and tenants when you call, and we will share a scope.
Are repairs on historic homes different?
Designated properties may need review by the Historic Preservation Commission at (936) 291-5400. Ask before work starts.
